If you know me, you know that I love nail polish, and this weekend was like a dream come true for me! On Friday I took my first peek at the local American Apparel and fell head over heels with almost everything in there, including all of their beautiful colours! I recently bought a deal where you could get 5 nail polishes for $15, but when I got there I fell in love with their whole display, and was sad that I couldn’t have them all.
But I love the colours I did pick, and am so glad that I bought that deal! I love how vibrant the colours are, and am picturing them going perfectly with my Konad patterns. They remind me so much of spring and summer that are just around the corner, and I can’t wait to play around with them! I also want to go back and buy the rest of the colours that I don’t have, along with a couple hoodies and toques to tie me over until the warmer weather gets here.

My grandmother and I used to be inseparable when I was a kid. I would spend a couple weeks in the summer with my grandparents every year, and I would cling to my grandma the entire time, every time. She always knew what was fun, and kept me busy with with arts and crafts, crosswords, cards and baking the whole time I was there. One of the things that my grandma and I used to make each time I visited were her delicious chocolate confetti squares. Filled with marshmallow peanut buttery goodness, these treats are super easy to bake and the perfect snack any time! And since there’s no actual baking involved, it’s a great activity to do with kids!
Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or margerine
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
Directions:
In a large saucepan, melt your butter, chocolate chips and peanut butter on medium heat. Once the ingredients are melted, cool until you can safely hold your hand on the bottom of the pan (Grandma’s instructions)– roughly 10 minutes, until the chocolate is a little less melty (you don’t your marshmallows to melt and lose form). Add the marshmallows and stir everything together to coat them. Pack everything down into a 9×9 inch pan that has been lined with wax paper for easy removal. Put into the fridge or freezer to cool, and once hardened, cut into squares and dig in! That’s it! If you want to get extra creative with it, add a 1/2 cup or chopped nuts or coconut!
What’s your favourite treat to make?

You know how some people can pull off smoking to make it seem like the sexiest thing you could possibly do? Ryan Gosling pretty much owns that skill. Adding a crafty quote makes me want to marry him.

In Winnipeg there’s this great little place called The Forks Market where you can get great food , shop for local treasures, and take in the scenery. When I had first come to Winnipeg to visit Kyla, she took me to The Forks and told me that the rivers freeze in the winter and you can go skating on the ice, and ever since then I have been romanticizing the idea. So after our brunch when my friend Joshua asked if I wanted to go, I couldn’t turn it down!
Being on the lake made me remember the days back in Pemberton when the lake would freeze and all the kids would get their parents to drive them to go ice skating. All of our dads would bring shovels to clear the snow enough to make a rink. They’d lend us their hockey sticks and all the kids would play a game, then the dads would have their turn. There would always be a bonfire and hot chocolate waiting for us when we got back to shore.
But this weekend we decided to just carefully slide on the ice with our shoes instead of skating, and took a long walk. We had so much fun hanging onto each other trying not to fall, and so many other people were out enjoying the sunshine, too! There were bonfires and snow hearts. What more could I have asked for in the day?

LA and I have been oggling over this site for a couple of months now, and I just had to share in case some of you hadn’t seen it yet. Handmade Ryan Gosling is a major win in my books.

I’m not much of a person to set New Year’s resolutions, but am always one to reflect on the things that I experienced on a year, and what sort of affect they’ve had on me. This year, I thought that it would be fun to share some of my favourite things that I discovered in 2011!
1. M83 “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” – This album took me a while to get into, but once I did I just couldn’t stop listening to it! The track “Midnight City” is one of my favourites of the entire year. Click here to listen!
2. Beirut “The Rip Tide” – This has been one of my favourite bands since 2008 and each album they come out with is more stunning than the last. This summer I went to their show with two of my dear friends, and it was just perfect! They also just posted dates for their upcoming Canadian tour, and I’m definitely planning on going again. Click here to listen!
3. Arctic Monkeys “Favourite Worst Nightmare” – I know that this album didn’t come out in 2011, but it’s critical to include for me. I had never really been into Arctic Monkeys before, but Kyla and her husband ended up getting free tickets to one of their shows and invited me along, and it was so much fun! I love how high energy they are! Click here to listen!
4. Crystal Castles “Crystal Castles (II)” – Again, I had a hard time getting into the album, but once I gave it a fair chance I just couldn’t get over how good it was! The song “Year of Silence” featuring Jonsi from Sigur Ros is one of my favourites. Click here to listen!
5. Said the Whale “Taking Abalonia” – I discovered this band by going to one of their shows in Vancouver, not having any idea how big their fan base was, or knowing that they were even local. But from their first song to their last, they were so much fun to watch! I ended up going to 3 of their shows this year, and would’ve gone to more if I had the chance! Click here to listen!
Want to play along? Post your favourite music of 2011, or comment below! I always love hearing about new music!

I can’t believe it’s been more than a month since I was last on here. It’s crazy how time flies by, and how life can get so busy sometimes. Here’s what I’ve been up to since December!
♦ I went to Vancouver and stayed with my very good friend, Natalie. It was a surprisingly quiet trip that consisted of a lot of Buffy watching and staying in, but it was lovely. I got to see my parents and one of my closest friends, Shay, who was able to make it to Vancouver from Hawaii at the same time as me!
♦ I’ve been gearing up to start looking for a second job… meaning, staying at home reading and watching TV as much as possible while I still can! I am terribly unmotivated to even try to find a copy of my resume that’s somewhere on my computer, but I’ll get to it soon.
♦ Eating more balanced meals and planning to sign up for the gym, which is across the street from my house. Really, I have no excuse!!!
♦ Trying not to get frostbite in this -25 degree weather! It can be really brutal some days!
♦ Planning on having a new roommate for March 1st! A friend of mine from Vancouver moved to Winnipeg in August as well, and we’ve decided to move in together since we have so much fun when we hang out. I’m excited for a never ending movie night, and to have more of a communal space than I have now.
Now, enough about me.. how the heck have you been?!

This past weekend I finally started watching all of my favourite Christmas Movies! A few friends came over to my apartment and we watched Home Alone 1 & 2, drank beer and ate ice cream with marshmallows. It was just wonderful! I always love the few weeks leading up to Christmas and have made it a tradition to get in as many holiday flicks as I can. These are my must sees every year!

Okay, I know that Hook isn’t really a Christmas movie, but it’s set during the holidays! Who would be against a little Peter Pan holiday cheer, anyways? Do you have any favourite holiday movies? I’d love to hear them!

When I was younger I used to hate Christmas. Trying to be a teenager with opinions about capitalism (and secretly being jealous of other people’s presents) I hated that everyone was just getting sucked into the marketing of Christmas and were obligated to by presents for one another when they were broke enough as it was. Maybe it’s because my family started some pretty awesome traditions, or because I started asking for less expensive things, but I absolutely adore Christmas now!
The last few years I’ve gone home to my little town in the mountains to spend time with just my parents. We’ve made traditions of making Russian baked goods, watching Christmas movies on TV, sitting by the fire with a warm mug of anything, and occasionally going for a drive in the mountains. The snowy ridged view is always so magical to me.
Each year when people ask me what I want for Christmas I always feel like it’s such a challenge to answer. This year, since I’m travelling halfway across the country with not much room in my suitcase, I’m asking my family for money. I’ve been making a list for the last couple of weeks of what I want, and am hopefully going to be able to get these little treats for myself!

1.
Instax Mini – I’ve been dying for one of these for a while, and absolutely adore them!
2.
Teapot – I had this same teapot from Vancouver and it’s one of the only possessions that I miss.
3.
Kindle – I borrowed Kyla’s kindle for a while to see if I would like it, and it turns out that I really do!
4.
Lantern lights – With trying to decorate my new house, I have been dying for a few of these to put around to make it feel homey.
I’ll be leaving for BC in 2 weeks, and I can’t wait to see everyone! I can’t believe that I will have lived in Winnipeg for 4 months!
What are you getting up to for the holidays?
